I'm part of an artist collective in my spare time, at the moment we are all working towards an exhibition in October based around a book called The Book of British Fairy Tales by Alan Garner.
We each pick a few stories then go away and see how they inspires us, as an illustrator my work tends to be the most figurative rather than contemporary (its very hard to work against all the years of training!) but I am trying to push myself by using my new found love of lino print rather than falling back on my watercolours and ink line skills which I use everyday.
Of course I have managed to find the one tale in the whole book that features a dragon because...well why not?!
I have started experimenting with printing onto black card and I have to say I'm really pleased with how its coming together. I'm also seeing what effect I get when I stitch into the print, I love the extra texture this adds.
I'm really enjoying the freedom to work on something that not for a specific client, its very rare these days that that is the case. However it is also very addictive and I do have to stop myself and actually do some of the money earning jobs!
I'm Kat and I'm an illustrator living and working in Bath in the UK. This blog is a record of my artwork, projects and anything I think is interesting, I hope you'll read a little of my ramblings!
