Been doing some more bits and pieces for Victoriana Nursery Gardens, I love doing stuff for these guys, they are such a great company and best of all they pretty much give me free rein when it comes to design!
These where for their 50th anniversary logo, amazing that the same family have spend this long producing such wonderful plants! Its always a pleasure to be part of it!
I worked as a commercial greeting card illustrator for years supplying some of the (once) big chain stores and so am used to having to do Christmas in May, I'm currently working on my Christmas stock for my notonthehighstreet store which for 2013 will include my new soft art doll reindeer (with fully posable legs don't ya know!)
This is my calico prototype just to check I'm happy with the proportions and the design of the legs, need to get the artwork painted up now, scanned and sent to my digital fabric printers...
I have also been a little swamped recently with various blog and website work for some very lovely people, am currently trying to get some really nice flower & veg logos finished...
Really looking forward to getting these painted up!
I currently working on knitting patterns, this is a new one for me, I've never designed knitting patterns. Not the actually pattern itself, I'm no where near that talented but the logo and layout of the designs for the lovely Mary Henderson.
Mary is hoping to start selling her beautiful fair isle designs direct at craft shows very soon and I will be helping her to shape the look of her branding and packaging.
Mary's work is stunning, I was given the hats above to photograph and she very nearly didn't get them back!
Some of Mary's patterns are already available on-line, take a look at The Making Spot.
I have just stumbled across what looks to be an amazing exhibition starting next month at Green Hill on Dartmoor.
Midsummer – Saturday 22nd June – Wednesday 7th August
If this wasn't enough, there will be a book signed on Saturday 22nd 2-4pm at which many of the artist will be signing! I may geek out completely right now!
I have been a huge Brian & Wendy Froud & Alan Lee fan since I cant remember when, I am so excited that this will be happening 2 hours from us! If that wasn't enough to get me totally overexcited, I then spotted this...
Following our Widdershins book signing we will have a talk by illustrator and artist Paul Kidby.
Oh my god! I booked tickets straight away, apparently I was the first as this has only just gone up on Green Hills website! If you are in the area on June 22nd GO, if your not in the area, book a B&B and GO!
Right now I have to go and decide which books to take to get signed, as my collection is extensive this may take some time. Cant wait for June!
On Sunday I took part in the Larkhall Festival Craft Fair...
I was pleased with how the stall looked and there was a good selection of sellers.
Sadly although we had a lot of people through the door, few people where actually buying, I think pretty much everyone there had the same experience. I managed to cover the cost of the table at least but the last few shows seem to have been this way. I did give out loads of business cards so hopefully people will go and look at my shop instead. It is very had when you put so much effort and time into designing an item, never mind just have to keep plugging away I guess.
I have really wanted to make some canvas shopping tote bags for a while and as I have the Larkhall Craft Fair coming up on Sunday I thought it might be a good time to road test some of my ideas before putting them live on my shop.
Lino printing onto fabric is always a tense time for me!
Its all fine until you have to peel the lino back (wow my hand looks chubby in this pic!).
Phew! Well truthfully I buggered the first one up but the others came out fine. I really like my squirrel design but I wanted a hare one too so cut a new design this afternoon which I could print in blue.
I'm really pleased with how these came out, I've only printed 3 of each design just to see how they go on Sunday. Just need to get the rest of my stock together now.
If your in the area the craft fair will be at the New Oriel Hall in Larkhall, Bath from 12-5 this Sunday (5th), fingers crossed the sun shines!
I'm Kat and I'm an illustrator living and working in Bath in the UK. This blog is a record of my artwork, projects and anything I think is interesting, I hope you'll read a little of my ramblings!
